A Platform Designed for the Field

Every aspect of the Wavemaker® G5 has been purposefully reimagined to meet the rigorous demands of field‑based inspections. It’s compact enclosure, designed to IP54, and glove-compatible, ultra-bright toughened touchscreen ensure dependable operation across a range of challenging environments—including offshore, upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, as well as buried and insulated pipelines. Dual hot-swappable batteries further support uninterrupted operation, enabling extended use without the need to pause for charging.

At the core of the system lies an integrated computing platform that streamlines the entire data acquisition‑to‑reporting workflow. The embedded WaveProX software enables direct instrument control, while compatibility with WaveProV on an external laptop offers added flexibility. Procedure-driven collection routines, combined with intelligent feature recognition tools, reduce inspection variability and support fast, confident decision‑making in the field.

The G5 is designed to integrate effortlessly into existing workflows, supporting all GUL Screening Rings and non‑ATEX gPIMS® Monitoring Sensors for full backward compatibility. Whether upgrading from a previous generation or expanding your current setup, it offers future‑ready capabilities without compromising proven infrastructure.

A newly developed instrument‑to‑sensor cable ensures compatibility with existing rings, allowing users to benefit from the latest platform improvements in performance, reliability, and ease of use.

Ring configuration, size, and serial number are detected automatically, reducing setup time and eliminating manual entry. For Compact, HD, and HT rings, the system also detects orientation and reads pressure and temperature sensors—enabling intelligent communication between hardware and software.

A particular efficiency is the ability to simultaneously collect standard and high‑frequency screening data when using Compact rings populated with TRIO modules. This not only saves time in the field but also streamlines analysis and reporting by consolidating results within a single data file.

Wavemaker System

Wavemaker® System

The Wavemaker® System is a guided wave inspection platform for rapid screening of pipelines and pipework. From a single test location, it provides full volumetric coverage of the pipe wall to detect corrosion and other cross‑sectional changes.

Designed for in‑service assets, it is particularly effective in areas with limited access and improves the probability of detection (PoD).

A comprehensive training programme is available for different operator levels and inspection applications.

System components

Three portable elements work together to deliver reliable screening results:

  • Transduction ring: mechanically or pneumatically applied to achieve dependable coupling;
  • Wavemaker®: lightweight electronics unit for signal generation and inspection data acquisition;
  • WavePro: software that applies advanced processing algorithms and presents results a clear, structured format.

It supports a wide frequency range, allowing system settings to balance inspected range and sensitivity for different applications. Lower‑frequency inspection is well suited to buried and coated pipelines, while higher‑frequency inspection using HD rings improves sensitivity for detecting defects such as pitting corrosion.

Advanced signal processing

WavePro includes patented processing algorithms.

  • Enhanced Focusing Capability (EFC) enables the generation of the unrolled pipe display that makes defects and pipe features easier to visualise and locate circumferentially.
  • Absolute Calibration (ABSCAL) provides automatic amplitude calibration and reverberation simulation, improving indication assessment and supporting the identification of false echoes. This reduces operator effort while improving data quality and confidence in interpretation.

Reporting

Results are displayed in a clear, structured interface that enables efficient reporting and repeatable inspection outcomes.

Wavemaker® G5

This latest full‑capability instrument provides 32 channels for flexible inspection configurations. It is compatibile with all GUL Screening Rings for inspection and non‑ATEX gPIMS® Sensors for scheduled monitoring.

An integrated touchscreen interface supports inspection setup, data collection, and analysis, with optional laptop‑based operation. Procedure‑based setup and software‑assisted tools promote consistent inspections and reliable results across different operator experience levels.

Although some specifications are similar to those of the Sonyks system from Eddify Technologies and the Teletest Focus system from Plant Integrity, the Wavemaker system allows for better defect discrimination, better productivity, and more consistent inspector performance.

Scheduled Monitoring

With one button press, the instrument can be placed into gPIMS Collector mode to allow a minimally trained operator to collect repeat data from non‑ATEX permanently installed sensors during scheduled monitoring.

Combining Rings

For very large diameter pipelines, inflatable rings can be combined using channel reducers or combination boxes to allow multiple rings to interface with the instrument.
