Corrosion under pipe supports (CUPS) is one of the leading causes of  pipe failure especially pipe resting on beam supports and saddle clamps. This is because pipe supports which promote crevice forming, water trapping or galvanic forming can initiate the corrosion mechanism of the pipe material. In most cases, these supports have poor inspectability and maintainability because it is very difficult to access the pipe section resting on the support.

The Wavemaker® system has been proven to be able to detect corrosion under supports. Case Study 7 describes a real inspection job where GUL's flagship equipment has successfully detected corrosion under pipe supports.
